Hosting a party? 6 Crowd simple and pleasing appetizers

Throughout my life, I have always been thrown into a hostess role.   I’ve always been asked to put together events for my friends getting married, having babies, moving out of Utah, etc…

That has also resonated over into my professional life as well.  Birthdays, showers, charity events, you name it, I’ve been voluntold to do it.  That has also been the case in my new job.

People always ask for my recipes and everyone is just amazed at how much “time” and effort it takes to put a succesful party together.  Shhh…don’t tell anyone, but it’s not.  It’s actually pretty simple. I’ve included some of the appetizers that I use and as you will see below the recipes are so simple that being a good host is not hard to do.

Simple Appetizer Recipes

Spicy Meatball:

• Frozen meatballs. For a healthier option, make ground turkey meatballs.
• Spicy Jamaican Sauce from Costco
• Pineapple Habanero Sauce from Costco

Fill up the Crockpot with meatballs. Pour about 1/3 of each bottle on top of the meatballs. Stir after about 1.5 hours and add additional sauces depending on what you prefer.

Sweet Meatball:

• Frozen meatballs. For a healthier option, make ground turkey meatballs.
• Grape Jelly
• Chili Sauce

*You can also use teriyaki sauce for as well and make sweet meatballs

Tortellini:

• Bag of frozen tortellini
• Jar of pesto sauce or Alfredo sauce

Pour both in a Crockpot, stir and your finished!

Spicy Dip:
• 2 boxes of light Philadelphia cream cheese
• 2 cans of white corn
• 1 jar of mild salsa
• 1 jar of jalapeno

You can bake the dip in the oven or use a Crockpot. To bake, mix all of the ingredients in glass baking pan or casserole dish. Place the pan in the oven for 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

Baked Brie:
• Pillsbury Crescent Roll
• Brie Cheese
• Brown Sugar

Roll out the crescent roll on one large pan. Sprinkle brown sugar on the bottom and place the brie cheese. Wrap the crescent roll around the cheese so that it ends up looking like a ball. Bake it in the oven at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes. Serve with crackers for a savory and sweet dish.

Baked Wontons:
• Light cream cheese
• Imitation crab
• Diced onion and green onion (personal preference on amount)
• Paprika
• Salt and pepper to taste
• Wonton Wrappers
• Muffin pan

Spray the muffin pan with Pam. Place the wonton wrappers in each muffin tin and a light coat of egg wash on the inside of the wrapper. Bake the wonton wrappers for about 5 minutes at 350 degrees.

In another bowl, mix the cream cheese, minced imitation crab, onion, and season to taste. If you want, sometimes for a kick, put a splash of Tabasco sauce.

Then fill each wonton wrapper with the filling and bake for about 10 minutes. Since the wonton wrapper is not closed, it is best to take it out when guests arrive to keep it warm.

Baked Eggrolls:

• Ground turkey
• Shredded cabbage (purple and green)
• Shredded Carrots
• Diced Onions
• Egg Roll Wrapper
• 1 Egg

In a pan, cook the onions until they are clear. Add the ground turkey in and stir to separate the clumps. Make sure to add salt, pepper, and any other seasonings to taste before cooking. Once the ground turkey is almost cooked, add the cabbage and carrots and cook for about 5 minutes and move it off the stove to cool.

Start your oven at 350 degrees and start wrapping. Fill each wrapper with the filling and fold. Make sure to egg wash the corners, so the wrapper does not come loose. Place in the oven and you are done. You can also freeze the uncooked egg rolls for another party after.
